How to Factory Reset Your iPhone

You've backed up your data and removed your iCloud account - now for the final step. A factory reset wipes your iPhone completely, removing all your personal data, apps, photos and settings, and returning it to exactly the state it was in when it left the box.
This is an important step before selling or passing on your device. It means the next person starts completely fresh and none of your personal information remains on the phone.
Before you reset - make sure you have done both of the following first, otherwise you may lose data or run into problems:

Step 1 - Open Settings
Tap the Settings app on your home screen - the grey icon with cogs.
Step 2 - Tap General
Scroll down the Settings menu and tap General.
Step 3 - Tap Transfer or Reset iPhone
Scroll to the very bottom of the General page and tap Transfer or Reset iPhone.
Step 4 - Tap Erase All Content and Settings
Tap Erase All Content and Settings. A summary screen will appear showing what will be erased - tap Continue.
Step 5 - Enter your passcode
If you have a passcode set on your iPhone, you will be asked to enter it now to confirm you have permission to erase the device.
Step 6 - Tap Erase iPhone
A final confirmation will appear. Tap Erase iPhone to begin the reset. The process cannot be undone once started.
Step 7 - Wait for it to complete
Your iPhone will erase all content and restart. This usually takes 2 to 5 minutes. Once finished, the setup screen will appear - the phone is now completely wiped and ready for its next owner.
Good to know
- A factory reset cannot be undone - make sure you have backed up before starting
- If you skipped removing your iCloud account, the phone may ask for your Apple ID password during the reset - have it ready
- The reset will also turn off Find My iPhone automatically
- Once reset, the device shows the "Hello" setup screen - this confirms it has been wiped successfully
